The EPA Is wrestling with establishing effluent standards for toxic pollutants as part of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. FDA Regulations (a) FDA has exempted PCBs in electrical capacitors and transformers from the regulations (page 18096). (b) The effective date for these regulations is September 4, 1973 but certain procedures have to be taken by August 6. (c) The temporary tolerances established for PCBs in foodstuffs range from 0.2 to 5.0 ppm and in paper food packaging 10 ppm. 2. EPA (a) EPA is proposing a list of toxic pollutants which includes PCB. (b) It is apparently EPA's intention to establish effluent standards for each of these toxic pollutants as part of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act.
