Davis: We have your letter of March 6 addressed to Dr. Kehoe in which you request a section of the hose which we tested for Mr. Lewis. We are sending you a piece today and would he very much interested in the results of any tests which you nay carry out on. it. I assume that Mr. Lev/is has given you the history of the hose and the results of our test with it, so I am not repeating them. The varied situations in which these hose3 are used, for example in refinery tank3 v/hich may contain solutions of caustic and the like, which will tend to remove oilproofing substances, suggest the possibility of an investigation for some material more suitable for treating these hoses. We have been considering the possibility of coating then 'with Thiokol rubber or Duprene and wonder if you have carried out any investigations in that direction. The problem is of great interest to us from the point of view of the possible absorption of small amounts of tetraethyl lead from gasoline residues into the walls of the hose and we will naturally be very much interest ed in testing any hose of improved resistance which you may develop.
