TO: Regional Parts Personnel Regional Service Managers Regional Managers - NON-ASBESTOS BAND BRAKE LININGS In late 1984, Mining Engineering converted all production drum and pro pel brake linings to non-asbestos material (refer to attached cross re ference sheet). Now, a non-asbestos lining material, P&H 3024, has been Issued to replace asbestos lining material, P&H 3001 (or Grade "U") and P&H 3017, for non-production band brakes to accommodate repair parts. With the release of this new lining material, all asbestos brake lining material has been removed from production and non-production mining equipment. In order to Insure removal of all asbestos band linings, the existing brake band segments calling for either P&H 3001 or 3017 will be super seded by a new figure number. The ERN will specify to exhaust all ex isting stock of completed brake segments and/or lining material. It Is imperative to establish a system to identify and exhaust all existing stock of segments and lining material at the stocking level to insure a complete conversion to non-asbestos linings as quickly as stock will permit.
