Jim's record as both Credit Manager and Managerhas equipped him well for the position of Area Manager, and coupled with this his friendly per sonality will enable him to continue his successful record thus iar established. On April 15, 1956 he was transferred to the Regional Cicdit De partment where he took over the duties of Relief Cashier and on Januaiy 1, 1958 he was promoted to Branch Credit Su pervisor. On May 25, 1959 he took over as Managerof theDubuque. Iowa Rranc h where he remained until his transfer to Chicago-E. 87th. Gene's years with S-W have taken him into many oi the W. R. Branches, acring as relief Credit Man ager Sc Manager, and instructor as he sought to train new Credit Managers in their duties. Kuhlman The many friends of Fa y e F. Ku h i.ma n were saddened by his death on Feb ruary 2, 1963, following a short illness. Faye was Branch Manager at Hender son, Kentucky from 1944 to 1948 and Rockford, Illinois from 1948 to 1958. In 1958 he started his own business as an S-W Dealer in Rockford, with his wife, Emily, also a former S-W employee, as Interior Decorator. As such, this team of husband and wife built quite a going business. Faye served his country as a member of the Armed Forces in both World War I and World War II. A naan of highest integrity, Faye worked in a quiet manner throughout his life, giving of his time and talents in many and varied ways without the thought of recognition. He had an in satiable desire for perfection. Following a short memorial service in Rockford, Faye's body was returned for interment in his family lot at Pittsfield, Illinois. Ho l l o w a y became the victim of an automobile accident on March 4, 1963, thus terminating his so journ here on earth. "Gus," as he was lovingly known to his many friends, was a Representative of Territory 6202 of the Midwest Automo tive Zone and "Gus" serviced his custo mers with all the loyalty he possessed for the Sherwin-Williams Co. He could well have been termed a "born salesman" for he enjoyed immensely the calling he fol lowed. "Gus" was employed as O. K. Sales man far Lowe Brothers on June 26, 1944 and on September 1, 1948 he became MidwestAutomotiveRepresen tative. H is ready smile and helping hand garnered for him many friends throughout his ter ritory, as well as throughout the Com pany itself. He was a man on whom one could depend and he was often found going out of his way to be of assistance to someone. "Gus" had been warned to slow down but that just wasn't his nature and al though he had been on sick leave since November 1962, his interest was ever constant with S-W Automotive Zone. Our sympathy to Mrs. Holloway and other members of the family in the loss of their beloved husband and father. Death is the Golden Key that unlocks the gates to Eternity. 5 0007-SWP-000107786 Sherwin-Williams to Open Plant in Puerto Rico Cl e v e l a n d ., O., Nov. 27--The Sher win-Williams Co. of Puerto Rico, a re cently-formed subsidiary of the SherwinWilliams Co. here, today completed ar rangements with the Puerto Rico Indus trial Development Corp. for lease of a building to be used as a paint manufac turing plant. The new facility is located in the municipality of Bayamon near San Juan. P. R. Situated on a two and three-quarter acre tract, the 23,000 square foot factory, office and warehouse is expected to be in production early in 1963. Initially, the plant will employ approximately 37 per sons and will be capable of producing about one-half million gallons of paint products annually. The new corporation is a venture of Sherwin-Williams and Sues, de A. Mayoi & Co. ol San Juan. The concern will manufacture such familiar Sherwin-Wil liams paints as Super Kem-Tone, KemGlo, SWP House Paint and certain in dustrial maintenance and product fin ishes. Distribution will be through the Mayoi organization which has distribut ed Sherwin-Williams products in the is land for more than 50 years. Colin Baldwin, president of Sher win-Williams, is president of the new company. W. D. The eleven-man board of directors is made up of representatives of the cooperating firms. Commenting on the venture, Baldwin said: "We are highly pleased to be part ners with Mayoi principals in this un dertaking and grateful to the Puerto Ri co Economic Development Administra tion for their efforts in helping to set it up. Sales in the island have increased steadily during the many years of our association and the new production fa cilities will insure our staying ahead of the market. Well, it's pretty hard to do these days when an S-W employee completes his 25th Anniversary with the Company. However, we know that's fust exactly the reaction H AROLD ALBRECHT, Man ager of our Springfield, Illinois Branch, felt when he opened the Branch at 7:30 on the morning of February 7. BiII Reed, Credit Manager, and George Stokes, PBM Representative, had ar rived at the Branch at 7:00 o'clock--set up the coflee table and received the flow ers that arrived at 7:10. By 7:20 the cof fee was brewing, donuts were out and the flowers arranged (the office had been decorated the previous evening after hours), so the two of them locked the Branch and left. Then when Harold arrived he no doubt had the biggest sur prise of the day___office fully decorated --coffee table invitingly ready for all call ers. Mr. Halterman presided over a very interesting and informative program, and, a$ usual, the honoree came in lor his share of good natured puns. Harold received a number of gilts from his many friends throughout the Company, including a Transistor Ra dio, silver cuff link and tie clasp set, pen and pencil set, Polaroid Camera com plete with film and flash bulbs, seat belts for his car and a diver serving tray. Mrs. Albrecht received a billfold and key case set. After a day filled with one surprise after another for Harold, the evening ended on a very happy occasion, and the following day found Harold returning to the workaday tasks of running the Branch, with his eye toward the comple tion oi another 25 years. Harold, a graduate of Bradley Poly- Institute. Peoria, Illinois worked as Asst. Cashier in the Peoria Bianch from Feb ruary 1986 until January 1938, at which time he left S-W, returning on February 7, 1988 as Cashier at our Decatur, Illi nois Branch. On November 20, 1939 he was transferred to Springfield as Credit Manager and on March 23, 1943 he be came Manager of our Henderson. Ken tucky Store. April 10, 1945 he was teturned to Springfield and this time in the capacity of Btanch Manager, which position he successfully holds today. From what we have heard, the experi ence of celebrating one's individual 25th Anniversary with the S-W Com pany becomes a highlight of tuve arret, and the memory ol the occasion longlingering. These meetings play an important part in the overall success of our Company because they tend to be informative, stimulating and productive, and at the same time allow a much needed period of fellowship so that the men may have an opportunity to meet and become bet ter acquainted with others whose inter ests are shared by one and all. Pictures taken at these meetings tell their own story. You may get a glimpse of a Branch Manager absorbed in a demonstration put on by a PMI Repre sentative. You may find a Credit Man ager apparently listening intently, and then again you may see a group in a gab session during a t offee break. There is always the leader who seems to be hold ing the interest of his listeners, and that may be because he is informing them of something new with S-W. Of course, we point with pride to the men who have received special recognition for their ac complishments in the field of sales this past year, whom you will see in several pictures. So - . . whatever the scene, we hope you will appreciate airesh the time and efforts of those who have made the gath ering possible___for it is all in the best interest of a greater Western Region through more enthusiastic and informed members of our one big family. P. Squibb and Eve Fee of the PC&C De partment, Gisella Schrey, Trade Sales and Elna Trook, Branches, all under went surgeiy within a short period of time. Our photographercaught L. T.White, Auditor, hard at work while making his audit of the Chicago Regional office. And W. W. Tappan, Auditor, took time out for the photographer, also, while auditing the Chicago Regional of fice. Mr. White and Mr. Tappan worked together and we are happy to say that we enjoyed their visit. George Criel, a part-time Western Re gion mail boy, shows off the third place bron/e medal and white ribbon which he won in the recent all-city wrestling meet. George, who wrestled in the 154 weight class, is a junior at Carl Schurz high school. Ilis high school awarded him a trophy for being the most im proved wrestler, a wrestling letter and a sweater patch. This was George's first year in competition. Mr. R. D. Graham, Indianapolis Area Auditor, paid a visit to the Chicago of fice recently to meet Regional personnel and here we see him with C. E. Rutledge and R. W. Lacey, as they discuss Branch matters. Our sympathy to Mary Mrkacek Frelirhowski of the C&A Dept, in the tecent death of her father, Mr. John Mrkacck. Hulse who are the proud parents of a baby boy who arrived at 4:38 A.M. March 8, 1963. His name is James Lewis and he weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz. at birth. Ac cording to his sisters, Lauri age 7, Lynn age 5, and Lea age 2, James is just about king of the hill. Mr. Hulse is Branch Manager at Marshalltown, Iowa. On March 31, 1963, Betty Ann Rizzo, Western Region file clerk, announced her engagement to Robert Luck, Air man Second Class with the U-S. Air Force. The couple plan a long engagement, with Betty Ann continuing her employ ment while Bob continues to serve his enlistment. He is presently stationed at Little Rock, Arkansas, where he is at tending school to learn Titan 2 Missile Electronics. A very lovely four-generation family with none other than our own Marge Carlsonas the proudgrandmother stand ing behind her mother, Mrs. Martina Ander-son, and her daughter, Jeanne Van Oost, who is holding the youngest member and the recipient of all their affection, little Bryan Michael Van Oost at five weeks of age. 0007-SWP-000107809 Your miuion is through.
