Tho Gt. Regis equipment automatically fillo multiwall bags with tho correct weight of produot material. A packer operator slips a pastcd-valvo tuck-in-Gleovo bag ovor a food opout, ouo of throe such outlets. The filled bag io dropped on a horizontal conveyor wluoh
15* from tho loading station, removes tho bags from the conveyor and loads them on pallets* The pallets, when filled, are transported to tho warehouse by a fork lift truck operator. About P.500 bags are produced during an d hour shift.
Tho aforementioned mixing operations aro provided idth an alternate duot cry atom which cllrocts the material to the wot mixing area in tho southwest comer of tho workroom. Thera, n further enclosed mixing with the addition of water yields a paste product. This product io loaded into oithcr 5 Gallon or 1 gallon cans, tho covers crimped, and the cans palletized for warehousing. Four men are usually assigned to this area,

It was noted that noise in tho workroom was cost evident in tho tube preparation oroa (vibrating ocroon in the hopper) and at tho dry mix filling station (St. Rogia paclcor and ' adjacent auxiliary equipment), Noiso level measurements wore obtained in those ureas and aro noted on tho attached Sound Pressure Level Survey form.

Tine plaster operations are conducted in a threo story corrugated stool stmeturo, Building 212. The upper floors of the building aro rolegated to tho ortorago, mixing, and coaw:y;3ng of m&torials to produce tho plaster mix, which io essentially gypsum, Tito first floor io used for produot bagging and chipping.
Tho abovo operations aro conducted by a four min cm about h hours per day, once or twice a week, producing about 400 tons per month of bagged material, Boforo tho advent of dry wall end wallboard, 12,000 tons per month woro produced at this facility.
The mixing end conveying operations on the upper flooro arc conducted in essentially closed syrtomr. Tho multint/oll bagging operations taka placo on tho first floor. Pates bug loading machines automatically fill tho bags to tho desired weight. At tho ilo. 1 Bates Packer, two workers pack GO pounds of molding plaster into sido opening brigs. The filled bags ora manually placed on hand trucks and removed to a shipping croa. At the Wo. 3 Batos Packer, lightweight plaster Is bagged by one worker. Tho bogged product io convoyed to the cdjaoent shipping area.

Air tosfco wore taken in the breathing cone of the workers during joint systems <2zy mix operations. The following results wore obtained?
Sarcrti.0 Location. Breathing Zone Asbestos Concentration
1. Packer 2. Stocker
3* Kixerraan
'
A1 fibors/ml (greater then 5 microns in length)
17 fibers/ml (
" $ " )
<2 fibers/ml ( "
"5 " M w )
In addition, general dr Domplea were taken at two locations in the dry mix area. The
concentration of asbestos was found to bo 31 fibera/ml (greater than 3 microns in length) at a point about 20* vest of the packer and 12* northwest of the stacker. The concentration of GGbOGton was found to be 26 fibers/ml (greater than 5 microns in length) adjacent to tha mix hoppor (rdxesman'o work station). The latter test was taken when no mix preparation wac boing doho.
It was nobod that the Mixerwen wore respirators during tho actual mixing operations. Neither the packer nor tho stacker wore respiratora. Xt was stated that tho packer and the stacker switch jobs about omy yjO bags of production.
Tho floors, equipment, ledge surfaces, etc. in tho AO* X 60* dry mix working area wore covered with dust. Tho dust layer was constantly being built up during the various unit
operations, primarily from tho heavy concentration .of dust generated by the bag filling operation.
conouisicws
1. Exposuro to nolo resulting from the Joint Systems operations, ns performed at tho time of the visit, would not tend to bo detrimental to tho hearing of tho workers*
2. Tho P it 3 Building 212 operations, as performed at tho time of tho visit, would not ton to bo har.ordouo to tho health of tho workers.
3* liixposurc to asbestos from the Joint Systems operations would bo hazardous' to tho health of tho workers in tho diy mix arcs.
