Huffman, School of Forestry, University of Florida, soil samples were taken from treatments in the Soil Poison Tests at Gainesville, as listed in the attached table. After locating the desired treatments by careful measurement, the duff, soil and sand which had washed over the area during the past JOj years were removed until the outline of disturbed soil was visable. The amount removed is shown in the column marked "overburden removed". Samples were taken by means of a one-inch diameter soil probe. Approximately one pint samples were taken (k probes per sample) from the top 6", bottom 10" and 10'^ below original treated soil, and are labelled in order "A", "B" and "C". For background information on these plots, we attaching to your copy of this memo a report prepared 6/28/39 by Ira Hatfield which covers in:detail the establishment of the test plots which the soil samples were removed. are from The general area within the forest where this plot is located is receiving heavier use each year and there is always a threat of possible loss should a fire plow be run through the treatments.
