February, 1972. Dear Sirs, Our_cliant_the_Widow_of_yivlan_Rlchard_John_deceased. We have been Instructed by the Widow of the above named concerning the death of her husband in April 9th. 1962 at the age of 55. The deceased was employed by Messrs. Turners Asbestos Cement Co. Ltd. at Rhoose for many years prior to his death. As such he was involved in the treatment and improvement of Asbestos fibre and dust and was constantly in contact with them. The cause of death recorded by the East Glamorgan Coroner was "Mesotheliona Plura". At the date of death Mr. John was then 55 years of age and left a dependant. Some time in 1970 the deceased's son became aware through newspaper articles and the publicity given to this type of disease that his father's death ;as probably caused as a result of his contact for years with asbestos, since the articles reveal that the condition of Mesotheliona is produced by asbestos contact. In view of the publicity given to this type of disease of late and also to its known cause being contact with asbestos production we have been ins tructed by the Widow of the deceased to take action in respect of her husbands death for the benefit Cont.... i I I ii i 'O i of the deceased's estate and dependants. the reason for the delay was the Widow was ignorant of the material facts which were clearly of a decisive character until her son read the newspaper articles in aid 1971 and gained actual knowledge of the significance of all the facts. We feel, in the circumstances', that our client would have a good cause of action against your Company for the death of her husband due to this disease.
