NEWTON, MANAGER OF MAINTENANCE - OLEFINS SUBJECT: OP-II PYROLYSIS FRACTIONATING COLUMNS OVERHEAD LINES As discussed in one of our early meetings related to mothballing activity and procedures, it was brought out that high corrosion rates of the large overhead lines could be expected due to thfe wet asbestos insulation. It was recommended then that all wet portions be stripped and left uninsulated and that access be provided to sample the vertical section off the .tops of the columns. Since it has now been decided to strip and paint the columns in lieu of repairing the storm damaged insulation stripping and painting of these lines should be considered for inclusion in the fractionator job packages. The same paint specifications recommended for the columns would apply to the overhead lines. As a minimum alternate, access should be provided in order that a good representative number of samples for wet insulation and/or corrosion be obtained. // H. W. Decker cc: L. E. Abrahamson I. 0.
