The band should be wide enough and kept in position, so that at no time will the disk pro trude beyond the edge of the band farther than maximum exposure (C), indicated in Table 31-B, or at a distance greater than the thickness of the wall (W) whichever is less.
A cast safety guard is one which has the peripheral protecting member cast integral with one side member and may be of iron, steel, or other suitable material One mem ber, the penpheral member, or both may also be an integral part of the base casting or wheel head casting of the grinding machine
The guard should be no more than K in from the wheel (B).
A drawn steel guard is a safety guard with the penpheral member and the fixed side member formed from a single plate or sheet of steel A cover, consisting of a side plate and a relatively narrow penpheral member, is similarly formed from a single plate or sheet of steel The cover fits over and outside the penpheral member of the guard The cover, therefore, adds strength to the guard proper, in addition to acting as a side guard Con struction details are shown m Table 31-C
