Gillespie had 43.7 percent of the vote when the Associated Press called the GOP primary with 99 percent of precincts reporting. Stewart had 42.6 percent, while state Sen. Frank Wagner had 13.7 percent. Gillespie will face Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam in the November general election. Northam defeated former Rep. Tom Perriello in the Democratic primary earlier Tuesday night.
