Both asbestos and non-asbestos types of Joint System products are now available (wet and dry) from most major manufacturers. While not a manufacturer, Flintkote has been distributing both types with Flintkote labels in the South and Southwest for about 6 months. Also in the Northern Midwest and Northeast Flintkote distributes the asbestos type only. In California, New Orleans, Houston and St. Louis, the Supply Branches sell competitive labeled joint system products of both asbestos and non-asbestos types. Both dry and Ready-Mixed types are still being sold. Murco, U.S.G., and Weloo are sane of the manufacturers. There is no safe substitute for asbestos. All non-asbestos products currently on the market are inferior to the asbestos type. The contractor trade is reluctant to accept the inferior qualities, but will gradually be forced to accept them. National, U.S.G. and G.P. have announced elimination of the asbestos type. However, it is known that each of these ccnpanies make an asbestos type available to favored customers. It is believed Kaiser iraks both asbestos and non-asbestos types. Celotex does not yet have a non-asbestos product, but is field testing formulas at this time. . . Flintkote labeled materials are manufactured by the following crpanles. Port Clinton, Ohio - The Celotex Corp. Montgomeryville, Pa. - U-Do-It Company of America, Inc. Atlanta, Ga. - Ruco, Inc. Dallas, Texas - Murco, Inc. ' We re targeting October 1, 1976 to eliminate asbestos type products in Flintkote labels from these manufacturers. New caution labels for the nan-asbestos formulas will be drafted in cooperation with Mr. Schmitt. .
