MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 2, 1984 MEETING OF THE RISK EVALUATION GROUP Members Present: J. LeBeau, F. Hoerger, J. Venable, B. Weaver, P. Watanabe, D, Rausch, J. Gray (replacing C. Goodman) Also Present: T. Torkelson J. LeBeau stated that we had received a copy of an abstract of a report on a toxicology study on vinyl chloride that was conducted in Europe. He also stated that the study appears to be corroborative of previous published studies, but that the abstract is so vague we really cannot tell whether or not the study contains any substantial risk information. Finally he stated that he had just been talking on the phone to VKI in Europe and that he had been told they had notified the EPA concerning the details of the study and that they had sent the complete report to EPA. J. Gray asked who VKI had talked to at EPA and J. LeBeau replied that it was Cotruvo in the Office of Drinking Water. J. Gray suggested we send a copy of the abstract to the 8(e) office as a FYI. The Group did not favor this suggestion. J. Gray then suggested he call the 8(e) office and tell them Cotruvo had the information. The Group agreed with this suggestion. J. Gray went into a next door office and told David Williams that Cotruvo had been given information by VKI on a European study on vinyl chloride. He also told Williams the study appeared not to contain substantial risk information, but that we couldn't be sure based on the vague abstract we had. Finally, he told Williams we didn't have a copy of the complete report. J. Gray then advised the Group of his conversation and the meeting was adjourned. r &S 002465 10/11/84
