Bullard, D. Hicks / Summary Asbestos monitoring was done during the removal of room insulation from the mechanical rooms in the B-101 building. The monitoring was done to assure that the use of approved job procedures would result in acceptable airborne concentrations of asbestos. Personnel monitoring results were inconclusive because many of the filters were overloaded with fibers and debris. This overloading occurred because the workers were lying on their backs on scaffolds scraping the blown-on friable insulation off of the ^ ceilings and walls. This position caused the orientation of the filter cassettes to be upward allowing large quantities of solid material to fall directly into the cassette. q However, exposures were potential since all personnel within the restricted area wore -- half-face Scott respirators with high-efficiency particulate air filter cartridges, cn hooded disposable coveralls, monogoggles, gloves and boots. Area monitoring was done prior to removal, during removal and following removal (clean room). There was one overloaded sample. All other samples were below 2 fibers/cc. The highest count was 1.67 fibers/cc for a 230 minute sample. cn ro The results of this survey should be furnished to Win Way, Inc., the contractor for this job.
