vnru. From: TO: DATE: SUBJECT: Negative Pressure Enclosure at QHU WMC performed its first asbestos removal job using a negative pressure enclosure during the recent GHU shutdown. The Job was done by Thorpe Insulation Company. Although they had planned on only "tenting" the GHU reactor and not using a negative pressure enclosure, they had no problems in including the negative pressure enclosure when we reviewed the requirements. The job was planned and overseen by the AIky/Hydro employees and the Maintenance shutdown coordinator. Thorpe did all the preliminary work, as well a6 the industrial hygiene monitoring while the removal was underway. The enclosure was properly set up, although the rain and wind posed problems with maintaining its integrity during the 2 days it was required. The regulated area was appropriately barricaded, and the Health and Safety personnel were satisfied that the requirements had been met. Approximately $2000 in additional costs incurred by erecting a negative pressure enclosure.
