Subject: VFA (Code 5lkB-gU) at Vinyl Chloride Uhlt
A meeting on May 20, 1966, at the subject unit, was held for the purpose of discussing the analyzer performance since receipt of the recent order to overhaul the analyzer system. (See letter dated December 14, 1965; Shop Order 23560.)
It was decided that the analyzer was still not operating satisfactorily as a result of the changes made (i.e., new valves, thermistor detector elements, new columns, recalibration, and sample system modification). 15ie primary trouble appears to be Inaccuracy and out-of-service time.
Hie following steps were recommended to reduce or eliminate these troubles:
A. Install equipment to automatically shut off sample flow to the analyzer In the event of power failure and carrier gas pressure failure (empty cylinder).
B. Eliminate acetylene Inlet stream (which has zero HC1 concentration and therefore tends to clean analyzer system of HCl).
C. Use automatic sample repeat feature so that each stream Is sampled and "read out" twice during each stream select position (to give analyzer chance to condition to each stream).

D. Change measurement so that each component Is measured In 0-100$ range and eliminate nitrogen reading. (This will eliminate costly calibration time and reduce chance of error In logging analyzer readings.)
The analyzer would be set up as follows:

It was decided that the existing work order be closed and a new one opened for a maximum expenditure of $1,000. A meeting is scheduled for July 1 to discuss progress and results of these new changes.
