Exposure to asbestos can cause ssbestosis, cancer of the lungs and digestive tract, and mesothelioma. The unusually high exposu're level was attributed to improper work prac tices by an inexperienced worker. Due to- the redaction of the work force and change of work schedule, many workers were assigned to hew job positions on September 16, 1985. It is recommended that employees be trained and informed on the appropriate work practices at the time of their initial assignment. EH 85-3 The noise exposure levels exceeded OSHA permissible exposure limits in most of the work areas. A comprehensive hearing conservation pro gram has been instituted for all workers.
