Raffaelli Antioch Subject ASBESTOS FIBER The attached recap shows the type of asbestos and amount used in our Accessory products, ranging from a low of 1$ to about 10$. This asbestos fiber is a basic part of each product to provide reinforcement and resistance to eraeld.ng of the material on drying. In addition, the asbestos controls other product performance such as mixing water, coverage, and application qualities. If Legislation banning the use of asbestos fiber is restricted to con struction products that are spray-applied, our accessory products affected will be K-Spray, Waf.1 Texture, Radiant Heat Compound (Santa Ana) and Radiant Heat Surfacing Compound. All of these formulas require some fiberous raw material for effective job performance. The Walltex formulas ` use a very short fibered asbestos, while the other three products use a longer fiber (7D and 3Z grades). A substitute raw material may be available, such as cotton fiber, which will replace the lcng fibered asbestos with no loss in the product quality and performance. If asbestos fiber is banned from all of our accessory products, we will be faced with a more difficult problem of substitution or reformulation. The Wall Texture and all of the joint and finish compounds use a short fiber asbestos. In one product (Topping Compound) we have reduced the fiber per centage to less than 1$, but we do not have any experience on product develop ment with no asbestos fiber. /c Attachment I KG-0067
