The Manville Corporation, the nation's largest manufacturer of asbestos products which has been hit by more than 16,000 lawsuits, has filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy laws. The Manville action brings to a halt all legal claims against it by asbestos victims and their families. The program also looks at evidence that decades ago, people in the asbestos industry knew more about the mineral's dangers than they admitted at the time.
