Fold bacx. tne oartiany separated portion of tne board and use tne knife again tc cut tne back paper. Rougn edges should be smoothed. Panels can be cut with a saw .f desired. CUTTING OPENINGS it will be necessary to cut holes in the waiiboard for electrical outlets, light receptacles, ete. The distance af the opening from tne end and edge of tne board snouid be carefully measured and marked on the face of the waiiboard. The opening should then be outlined in pencil ana cut out with a keynote saw. The cut-out must oe accurate or tne cover plate will not conceal the hole. It is more d ifficu lt to install the eemng boards because Of th ovemead positioning, it is desiraoie to nave T-braces to hold th board m place wniie it is bong naiied. This includes an embedding coat to bond tne tape and two finishing coats over tne tape. Each coat snouid dry thoroughly, usually 2 * hours, so th a t the surface can be easily sanded When sanding, wrap your sandpaper around a wood sanding block so you sand the surface evenly. Do not over-sand or sand tne paper surface. This may outline the joint or nail head througn the paint. Taka your 4* jo in t finishing knife and apply tne Ready-Mix Joint Compound fu lly and evenly into the siignt recess creatsc by the adjoining tapered edges of the ooard. A vert.cai application places tne iong edges of the waiiboard parallel to tne framing members. This is more desiraoie if tne .ailing neignt of your wan is greater than 8 -2 or the wall is 4 ' wide or less. Nailing recommendations are the same as for horizontal application. METAL CORNERBEAD To protect corners from edge damage, install metal cornerbead after you have instaned tne waiiboard. Nan the metal corneroead every 5 ' through gypsumooard into wood framing. m APPLYING WALLBOARD TAPE APPLYING FINISHING COATS fcext. take your waiiboard tape, center it over the |Oint and pre^ the tape firmly, into the pending compound with your wall- board knife held at a 4 5 ' angle. ApDiy first coat of Reaoy-Mi* with even pressure to smooth compound level with tne surface of the board. Do not bow knife blade with excess pressure as tnis tends to scoop compound from dimpled area. When ory, aooiy second co a t let dry. sand lightly and aopiy third coat. Sand ligntly Before applying your decoration. An additional coat may be needed depending on temperature and numidity. 13 FINIS. iNG END JOINTS compound Should be 14 to 18 nenes wee / tace m You use basically the same steos w>m end or butt joints as you do with taoered eoges. The end joints are not taoereo so care must be taken not to Build uo tne compound m me center Of the joint. This encourages ridging and snaoowed areas. Feather tne compound wen out on eacn side of tne ;omt. Final application of joint compound should oe 14 to 18 inches wide. FINISHING METAL CORNERBEAD FINISHING INSIDE CORNERS Be sure the metal corner is attached firmly. Take your 4* finishing knife and spread the G-P Ready-Mix 3" to 4 ' wide from the nose of the bead, covering tne metal edges, wnen completelydry. send lightly and aooiy second coat, feathering edges 2* to 3* beyond the first coat. A third coat may be needed deoending on your coverage. Featner the edges of each coat 2" or 3* beyond the preceding coat Cut your taoe the length of the comer angle you are "-m g to fmisn. Apply tne G-P Ready-Mix with your 4 knife eve- > soout l 1', on eacn side of tne angle. Use sufficient compound to emoeo tne taoe Fold tne taoe along tne center rrease and firm ly press it mto tne corner use enougn pressure to squeeze some compound under tne edges. Feather tne compound 2 mcnes from tne edge of the taoe. When first coat is dry. app'y a second coat. Feather tne edge of the compound 1 V ;' beyond tne first coat Apply a third coat if necessary, let dry and sand to a smoern sur face. Use as iittie comoound as possible at tne apex of tne angle to prevent nairnne cracking. FINAL DECORATION After the joint treatment is thoroughly dry. an surfaces should be sealed or primed with a vmyi or oil base primer sealer. This equalizes the absorption difference between the exposed surface and the joint compound surface.
