Docomber 16, 1966 Tho mooting was called to order at 9:15 A.M. with the following in attendance: Dr. K. W. Smith, Chairman Dr. C. Bishop Dr. R. Cotts F. H. Edwards Dr. L, B. Grant R. Kahn H. Mesler J. F. Vyverberg Dr. L. J. Crallcy J. M Barnhart Johns-Manyille Sales Corp. Owens-Coming Fiberglas Corp. Gustin-Bacon Mfg. Company Owens-Coming Fiberglas Corp. Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company Bnldwin-Ehret-Hill, Inc. The Ruberoid Company Owens-Coming Fiberglas Com. Division of Occupational Health - USPHS NIMA R. Cotts reviewed the meeting with the National Cancer Institute. It was agreed that the glass manufacturers would send to the NIMA office prior to February 1, 1967, information relating to processes, fiber diameters, types of binders, and end use products they manufactured. The information io to be forwarded to NCL The proposal from IHF relating to an industry study for fibrous glass war reviewed. It was agreed that the proposal was not detailed or specific enough. Dr. L. J. Cralley talked about the type of studies the Division of Occupational. Health engaged in and outlined the present study they were engaged in for the asbestos textile industry. The Committee agreed that therehavebeen several health hazards alleged to be associated with the fibrous glass industry. Our experience has not borne out these allegations. However, it is our unanimous recommendation that NIMA write a letter to the Secretary of Health and Welfare requesting that his DOH ascertain whether the health hazard exists in the industry and help in the solution of the problem, *f. such exists. The Committee has specifically suggested that this bo done 42 013 0915 2 by DOH because of the excellent Investigations and reports which resulted from other investigations of such industries as beryllium* diatomite* chrome* mining* ete* The Committee agrees that existing information should be sent to Dr, L, J. Cralley of DOH for interpretation* All companies are requested to send the NZMA office all information concerning health as it relates to fibrous glass for submittal to DOH* The Committee believes that the subject of management talking to the union regarding health hasards should be Investigated* ft was suggested that any study be broadened to include all insulating materials* The Committee agreed that the data available from the Kettering Laboratories pertaining to air erosion should be sent to Dr* L* J* Cralley for interpretation* ADJOURNMENT There being no further business* the meeting was adjourned* Respectfully submitted 42 012 0916
