A commercially produced b Map bag was shaken for 60 seconds in a small, unventilated room, and was then used to wrap toe base o f a rose bush. Asbestos concentrations were measured in the breathing zo ie o f the worker performing the test, and at room heights of 6, 33 and 60 inches at a distance o f 2 feet from the worker. The sampling period lasted for 4 minutes. The average breathing zone asbestos concentration was 490 fibers greater than 5 microns in lengti per milliliter (f/ml). At 6, 33 and 60 inches, asbestos concentrations were 300, 350 anc 470f/ml, respectively. The author recommends field surveys to determine actual wcrker exposure to asbestos. Whilst we are- attending to the suppliers at this end (we believe notably Hardies and Wunderlich) I am trying to get hold of an NTIS publication (abstract enclosed). W hils; I am not assuming that you have a copy o f this 5 page report, I wonder if you could possib ly give me the phone / fax / email if you have it o f the National Technical Information Service so that I can get a copy of this. By the way, I have not seen any old James Hardie brochures as you ask in the letter which you sent me on 23 April 1997, but if it is still an issue I will have a look in our arkives. I trust you are well. Best wishes David Directors: David Kilpatrick, Peter Bird, Mark Paholski.
