Akaaemie rur offentliche Gesundheit Bochum e, V Applied Epidemiology, Inc, ICOE Intensive Course in Occupational Epidemiology Wermelskirchen, Germany '`June5- 10, 1994 CMA 116345 THE CURRICULUM The Intensive Course in Occupational Epidemiology (ICOE) is a five-day instructional course in the concepts, approaches, methods, analysis and interpretation of occupational health research. It is specifically designed to provide occupational physicians and other health professionals with the essential background for critically reading and Interpreting publish ed epidemiological research, designing basic epidemiological studies, as well as assembling and analyzing data pertaining to the health of working populations. The course format will include lectures, seminars, informal discussion sessions, and consultation periods, during which participants may discuss with each other and with course faculty research challenges and inte rests. The ICOE will feature a fully-equipped computer laboratory for instruc tion and workshops on biostatistical analysis of occupational health data. Actual data sets from published epidemiological studies will be incorporated. Two leading books in the field. Research Methods in Occupational Epidemiology by Dr. Harvey Checkoway, and Case Studies in Occupdtional Epidemiology by Dr. Kyle Steenland will serve as the course text books. Numerous examples from the published literature and from the faculty's experience also will be used to illustrate key concepts. The ICOE is presented by the Akademie fur bffentliche Gesundheit, of Bochum, Germany, and Applied Epidemiology, Inc., of Amherst, Massa chusetts, USA, and will feature a faculty of leading experts in the field of occupational epidemiology. The course is fully residential requiring all participants to stay in the Bayer Training Center GroGe tedder. Reservations for hotel accommodation will be made by the ICOE-organizers. CMA 116346 2 ENROLLMENT AND CREDIT Physicians, industrial hygienists, research scientists, occupational safety and health specialists, students and any other health professionals inter ested in acquiring or sharpening epidemiological skills are invited to attend. No previous training in epidemiology is required All participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate by the Akademie fur offentliche Gesundheit e. V LANGUAGE The working language of the course will be English and participants will be expected to have a reasonable knowledge of spoken English. GroBe Ledder, close to Leverkusen and Cologne, provides all modern amenities, is nicely situated in a parkland beside Lake Dhunn, and this environment offers many leisure time activities, The price is DM 700,-per person, single room, including all meals, services and taxes for the entire course.
