Purpose and Need for Discharge of Dredged and/or Fill Material The facility is an industrial complex along the Savannah River. The owner is in the process of constructing a marine terminal facility. Site Overview (Past inspections, site description, permits, etc.) The Site is approximately 718 acres in land area and is a former superfund site. Four areas were identified by the US Army Corps of Engineers as having potential unauthorized wetlands fill. These areas are identified in Attachment A. The Site is located just east of the city of Savannah, immediately adjacent to Old Fort Jackson State Park (see Attachment A), adjacent to the Savannah River. Antecedent precipitation was wetter than normal on the date of the inspection (see Attachment B). Field Work Conducted Observations were conducted at the four locations identified by the Corps of Engineers (Attachment A). Specifically areas that had potential discharges into wetlands that have a continuous surface connection to the Savannah and Wilmington Rivers. Photographs were taken using a GPS-enabled Nikon AW120 camera. Locations of observations are included in the attached site overview map and photographic log (see Attachments A and C).
