Per earlier comments, I recommend that we do cooperate with a corporate "monitoring" effort. A study such as this always increases the awareness, levels of employees, and may lead to some increased concern among our welders. However, without such studies, we can't learn about exposures during enclosed welding operations. Further, we asked for "centralized" or corporate guidance regarding welding exposures, as an outgrowth of the corporate safety audit. There may, of course, be some loss of productivity among the welders being monitored. Also, results would have to be made available to the contractor. Also, briefing of the contractor regarding purpose and scope would be necessary, as would briefing of our own welding- supervisors. However, I recommend that we agree to participate in the study.
