MEXICO CITY, July 28 -- The Du Pont Company and its associated companies in Mexico expect to increase their present investment in that country by "at least 25 per cent" in the next few years, Irving S. Shapiro, chairman of the board of the Du Pont Company, said here today. Mr. Shapiro made the announcement at a press conference during a visit by Du Pont Company executives to participate in events marking Du Font's 50th anniversary in Mexico. He pointed to Du Pont's experience in Mexico as "a good example of how mutually satisfactory cooperation can exist between a government that is concerned about national development and a multinational corporation that can provide necessary ingredients for this development." Tracing the history of Du Pont's involvement in Mexico, Mr. Shapiro said the company started here in 1925 with an invest ment of $100,000 and 20 employees. Today, Du Pont and its assodated companies have a total investment in Mexico of over $200 million and employ 5,000 people. The activities of these companies include the manufacturing and marketing of a wide range of products including textile fibers, agricultural chemicals, plastics, white and colored pigments, fluorocarbons, dyestuffs, commercial explo sives , tetraethyl lead, finishes, and hydrofluoric acid. m 2 Total annual sales of these products and others imported from the United States to Mexico are about $150 million. "What Du Pont and its Mexican associates/ and the Mexican Government, have accomplished together here demonstrates that pro gressive government and enlightened private enterprise together make for one of the most potent people-helping forces in the world," Mr. Shapiro said. He said Du Pont is looking at new business possibilities "and we hope to increase our investment in your country by at least 25 per cent in the next few years." Du Pont economists, he stated, forecast a 6 to 7 per cent average annual real growth rate for the Mexican economy over the next 10 years. The chairman of Du Pont said his company's record in Mexico was not unique to that country but reflected Du Pont's international business philosophy. In addition to Mr. Shapiro, the visiting Du Pont manage ment group includes Irenee du Pont, a senior vice president with responsibility for Latin America; Benjamin F. Schlimme, vice president and general manager of Du Pont's International Department; and John A. Klacsmann, who will succeed Mr. Schlimme upon his .retirement August 30. #### 7/28/75 EDITORIAL CONTACT: Robert P.
