Our understanding is that there are no OECD Test Guidelines for ecotox studies in marine species and that no specific guidelines are suggested by ECHA. The study in oysters is being conducted according to ISO 17244, which itself is based on the ASTM method E174-21 which relates to studies in four different bivalve species, including Pacific oysters. The equivalent ASTM method for a study in sea urchins is ASTM E1563-21. There is no equivalent ISO guideline for a study in sea urchins. Our view is that the standards proposed are appropriate for these studies. Our aim is to initiate the study this week so as to catch the natural spawning cycle of the species under investigation. If we do not manage to do this, then it is likely the study will be delayed a year to catch the 2023 spawning cycle.
