After drying the mud was finely ground and divided into two 250-300g samples. The weighed mud was extracted with acetonitrile and the filtered extracts evaporated to dryness. The residue was saponified by refluxing with alcoholic KOH, re extracted into hexane, extracted with 90* sulfuric acid, and chromatographed on alumina. After concentration the amount of Aroclor present was determined by electron-capture gas chromatogra phy. The electron capture fingerpoints were identical with that of our Aroclor 1242 standard.
