Kehoe Dear Dr. Kehoe: We have under consideration at this time a project for bag filter ventilation at the blaiding station, the cost of which has been estimated to be 1994.00. It is our understanding that the installation of these facilities is to eliminate a condition which was brought out by you during a recent inspection of tetra ethyl lead area hazards. The following is a des cription of the facilities to be provided: It is proposed to construct and install individual vent hoods over the 15 Ethyl Fluid bag filters? install a duct system connecting the 15 hoods and connect into 30" BIX fan now on hand at the Blender Station; construct a building addition to the present bag filter house approxi mately 4*-4* wide x 11*, constructed of steel frame, utilizing salvaged sheet iron covering and sash; install monorail and trolley facilities. Design and installation are to be in accordance with Drawing DW-1479. Estimated Cost: Plant Increase Depreciation Labor 1200.00 205.00 1403.00 , Material $580.00 11.00 591.00 Total 1780.00 214.00 1994.00 Reason for this Expenditure: At the present time, blended and finished Ethyl Fluid is filtered through vertical pipe filters for the removal of solids and foreign material, prior to loading for shipment. These filters are 15 in number, each consisting of an 8" vertical pipe - 6* long - the inside of which is equipped with a wire , screen and a bag filter cloth. These bag filter cloths are removed and replaced on an average of twice a week and some Ts times more frequently, depending upon production. T. There are no facilities provided for supplying ventilation during the changing of these filter bags which are completely saturated with O o the Sthyl Fluid. This condition is considered a safety hazard since the operators changing the bags are subjected to the fumes of the Fluid, m order to eliminate this hazard, it is proposed to install a safety hood which will exhaust any Ethyl fumes that are evolved during the changing of these bag filters. No savings are estimated by the installation of this hood. The expenditure is requested to eliminate a safety hazard.
