Hawes 1 Audits and Inspections 1. A Kentucky Department of Labor, Occupational Safety arid Health Program, Compliance Officer conducted a plant-wide general safety and health Inspection. The Inspector was in the plant for five days and we were cited on 20 alleged violations. 2. Our precious metals Insurance carrier. Insurance Company of North America, conducted an audit of the Catalyst plant. A written report is to follow.. Hot Work Permits A total of 197 hot work permits were issued by the safety department during July, 1980. Several permits were denied completely and some were rejected as many as three times until necessary conditions were met. Several of these permits were critical because they involved tank* vessel, and piping that had contained flamma ble materials. Scott Air Paks All 44 Scott Air Paks were Inspected during July. Same modifications still need to be made on many of our air paks. Security 1. Pass procedures for scrap material were held on five Thursdays in July, 1980. 2. No. 1 railroad gate was damaged and had to be repaired. 3. Two hundred new construction badges were received and placed in use during July. AP00044926  2- - 1 Medical ' 1. A new ambulance was ordered and received. 2. New oxygen tanks were installed in the new ambulance. 3. A telephone was installed in the new ambulance. 4. Ruby Starks and D. I. Hawes responded to a heat exhaustion emergency at Calvert City Chemicals. Fire Protection 1. A C.E. was submitted for a new fire truck. 2. A revised purchase requisition was written for necessary repairs to the sprinkler protection system. 3. Ten fire extinguishers were recharged in July. 4. Four dry chemical extinguishers were painted, inspected, recharged and designated as fire watch extinguishers for the PVC plant. 5. Ordered and received new lights for CIMAP roadblock kit. 6. Repaired hydrant on N. W. comer of Warehouse. 7. Compressor repaired on sprinkler system at catalyst storage. 8. Leak repaired on wet pipe system at A-6 building. (Recharged with anti-freeze.) 9. Report written on fire in PVC plant due to electrical welding leads. 10. Responded to grass fire at river facility. (As noted by this report, fire protection is a growing time consumer. Without the replacement of F. R. Saul, our work involving fire extinguishers and fire systems continues to fall below standards.)
