Dear Bob:
You are going to get numerous letters from me in the next few months. The Section on Preventive and Industrial Medicine and Public Health elected me Secretary of that Section last June in San Francisco. At this time I shall not mention the task and certain obligations it imposes. You will hear about that in one or more circular letters I am sending to the P.amazzinians and other groups. At this time I have a very specif ic request of you.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the A. M. A.2 and the big wigs at the home office have decided to go all out to rnaSe this next convention at Atlantic City the biggest medical gathering ever in the history of medicine. Each Section is going to be permitted to invite a distinguished foreign speaker. In keeping with their ideas I have decided to put on a program un like those which have been the usual run of papers. I have de cided upon two distinct symposia: 1) The Need for Industrial Health Education, and 2) The Need for Scientific Proof in MedicoLegal Controversy. It is with regard to the first of these that I want your advice.
' Your travels have taken you to Europe and you must have observed the status of industrial medical teaching in.foreign countries. In England or on the Continent are they ahead of us in teaching industrial medicine? If so, what country particular ly- excels? If your answer to the first question is yes, have you in mind any one person who is a distinct leader in this field? If you have in mind such an individual, would he be one who would or could bring us any contribution to a symposium on this subject?
And while I am asking you these questions, have you any suggestions as to American medical educators who are engaged in advanced thinking on this subject? I want to shoot high -- to get the best and to make this program one of the outstanding of the whole damn convention. But I need good ad vice.
Awaiting an early reply, and with best regards.
