No. 351 March 28, 1956 DOEHLER-JARVTS EXPANSION ANNOUNCED An expansion program which will increase the capacity of the die casting facilities of the Doehler-Jarvis Division by 20,000,000 pounds of aluminum and 15,000,000 pounds of zinc per year has been announced. At the Toledo plant at 19*4-5 Smead Avenue, additional aluminum die casting machines will be installed, increasing metal consumption by about 10,000,000 pounds per year. The additions at the Toledo plant at Dixie Highway and Willamont Road include new die casting machines capable of handling large aluminum castings. These machines will be installed in a newplant wing with hydraulic stations and improved facilities. Capacity at this plant will be increased by approximately 10,000,000 pounds of aluminum annually. Doehler-Jarvis' Grand Rapids operation will add to its die casting capacity with the installation of new modern die casting machines in new building space. The addition of these machines will increase the use of zinc in Grand Rapids by approximately 15,000,000 pounds per year. A new alloying facility has been built at Pottstown plant No. 2 to permit more efficient metal recovery and utilization, and also insure a more efficient supply of molten metal to the die casting machines. Barber Die Casting Co., Ltd., Hamilton, Ontario, will install its first large die casting machine with capacity of 20 pounds in aluminum and 50 pounds in zinc under the expansion program to meet the growing demand for larger castings in Canada. COMPANY TO OPERATE URANIUM ORE PROCESSING PLANT The Company will take over the operation of the United States Atomic Energy Commission's uranium processing mill at Monticello, San Juan County, Utah on April 1, 1956, following the execution of an agreement between the Commission and National Lead. The Monticello uranium mill has been operated for the Commission since 19*4-9 by the Gallagher Company of Salt Lake City> which has advised the Commission it did not wish to renew its contract. National Lead Company is also contract operator of the Commission's ore testing pilot plant in Grand Junction, Colorado, which assisted in working out a design for a recent expansion of the Monticello mill and in developing the resin in pulp process in use there since last November. This new unit was brought into successful operation by the Gallagher Company, National Lead and the Commission, with National Lead coordinating the pilot plant work to mill operation. - over 0000-NLI-000024794 2- TITANIUM METAL PRODUCTION TO INCREASE AT HENDERSON PLANT Titanium Metals Corporation of America, Company subsidiary, is ex panding titanium metal sponge production at its Henderson, Nevada, plant by 67 per cent. TMCA is owned jointly with Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation. The new titanium capacity is expected to come on stream in the latter part of 1956 and will raise the output of this plant from 36OO to 6000 tons per year. At the same time ingot-melting facilities will be expanded to meet the additional production. It is significant that the new production will be constructed inde pendent of U. S. Government contractual guarantees. In 1950 TMCA, assisted by a Government loan of $15 million, began conversion of part of the former Basic Magnesium plant at Henderson and installed facilities for the production of titanium. Output of sponge metal rose from one ton per day in 1951 to the present rate of ten tons per day, first reached in September 195^Titanium ingots produced at Henderson are processed in Allegheny Ludlum plants into mill products for TMCA. The expansion program for titanium ingots for this year will necessitate an increase in the produc tion of finished titanium mill products. A number of new installations of auxiliary processing equipment will be required in the finishing mills to permit processing of the entire new production of titanium ingots. HALL IS TRADE SALES ADVERTISING MANAGER ON PACIFIC COAST Appointment of Brad Hall as trade sales advertising manager for the Pacific Coast Branch has been announced. This position was recently created to facilitate the handling of advertising done in cooperation with and on behalf of the growing network of "Dutch Boy" dealers. General product advertising and advertising to contracting painters will continue to be supervised by L. G. Harrier, Pacific Coast Branch advertising manager. Mr. Hall joined the San Francisco office of National Lead in 1950 as assistant advertising manager. Prior to that time he was assistant adver tising manager for Pan-American World Airways.
