INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS DIVISION MEMORANDUM 1/c- September 5, 1975 TO: Mr. W. S. Ferguson Env. Svcs. - Corp. SOL-1 Subject: VCM Monitoring - July 19, 1975 Sf'D3 1975 ^ * The July report from Baton Rouge shows that of 61 employees monitored, 59 had an exposure level less than 0.5 ppm. One had an exposure level of .67 ppm and one an exposure level of .82 ppm. The area monitoring equipment is working exceptionally well. 20 locations are being analyzed sequentially by two flame ionization gas chromatographs. 1700 analyses are performed in a 24 hour period creating the most critical task of monitoring, evaluating and utilizing the data which to date has not been done, computer application to this program is not yet visualized but this is the only practical approach to the optimal use of the information. Sixty-one em.oloyees were monitored during July, The distribution of TWA's is as follows: Ran se Mo. of Emplovees Percent 0.0 - 0.5 rmm VCI 0.51 - 1.0 ppm VCI 1.01 - Over opm VCI yy 0O 61 irt 98.4 1.6' 0 100.0 B. All employees tested during July were below 1 ppm exposure to VCI for the six-hour TWA's. C- The VCI leaders were all less than 0.5 ppm VCI during July. D. All employees of the VCM lab were below 0.5 ppm VCI for July. One employee of the Environmental lab was between 0.51 and 1.0 ppm VC] during July. nn<^ U.&7 O.f/ Cc^/.-> h- . The VCI monitors consist of two Bendix gas chromatographs, each having 10 sample points throughout the VCM complex. This system will be used to establish area excursions within the plant, loading area and lab. B. The attached data for the area monitors are readings taken by operations every hour. The data shows excursions from 5.1 to 50 ppm VCI for each 24-hour period. July 28-31 did not have any excursions over 5.0 ppm. Also, this data cannot be used for 5 ppm per 15 minute excursions, due to the fact one reading was taken per hour. C. A daily review of all 24-hour data will begin in mid August. When such data has been collected, a determination of the reduction of the regulated area will be made. ASI 00004584 A$I 00004585 name 7/1 H. Piper G- Ganey ' D. Hebert S. Heath 7/2 K.
