February 5, 1980 TO: BOARD OF DIRECTORS SUBJECT: CHARTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE At the October 1979 meeting of the Asbestos Study Committee it was resolved to change the name of the Committee to the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Armstrong, asked also that a charter be drafted to serve as a guideline for activities of the Committee. This draft charter was distributed to Members of the Committee and the wording has been revised to read as follows: I. General Responsibility: Responsible for the monitoring of existing and proposed world-wide Federal, State and Provincial legislation, regulations and literature on Safety, Health and Environmental matters affecting members of the Friction Materials Institute and the develop ment of Institute positions on these'matters. II. Specific Responsiblities Develop action plans and position papers on Safety, Health and Environmental Protection matters for approval and direction of the FMSI Board of Directors. Provide direct coordination with the Asbestos Informa tion Association Committees of Concern to FMSI. Develop and administer a continuing education program for the members of the Institute. Monitor the memberships experience with meeting regula tory requirements in order to provide technical assistance. Establish and maintain a working relationship with Federal, State, Trade and ocher agencies and organizations.
