Orfttnlcctlon, or Department) As you requested, I am sending you a copy of the OSHA Standard 29CFR1910.1017 vinyl chloride. At section (d) it is required that if two personal exposure tests taken five working days apart show more than 0.5 ppm for an 8-hour TWA, several specified steps be taken. Exposures below this are not sub ject to regulation. Polyvinyl chloride is considered a "nuisance particulate," and as such , exposure should be limited to 5 mg/m3 for respirable particles, and 10 mg/nr for total dust exposure. The attached pages from the most recent ACGIH guide give references to test methods. The amount of ventilation required to prevent exposure greater than allowable depends on a great many factors, Including the rate of release of vinyl chloride, the type of ventilation devices used, and the processes employed.
