Dear Mr. Watson:
It was indeed our pleasure having Messrs. Ed Klenke, Don Bowers and
yourself visit us on May 26th to conduct further screening tests on the sample of Af.fla.ir Pigment as reported under Test No. 16-910, Sub-Tests Nos, 1 to 4, copies of which are enclosed and from our understanding of our conversation of June 4th, your primary inter est lies in the fourth and last test conducted at a rate of 200 pounds per hour to a 3' wide x 10' long, 2-surface Hum-mer Screenrecovering the 40x120 mesh product at the rate of 138 pounds per
hour or 68.8$ of the total feed, analyzing 99.1$ -40 mesh and 94.4$ +100 mesh.
Actually, the 4th test is similar to Test No. 3 with, the exception of the feed rate which in the 3rd test was only 100 pounds per hour, the product analyzing almost the same but at a slightly less per centage of recovery which we are sure Mr. David Irwin had explained rather thoroughly to you at the time of your visit as well as ex plaining to you why the separations are so difficult when consider ing the bulk density of the material.
On the basis of these tests and your preference for the results of Tests Nos. 3 and 4, we are pleased to enclose our proposal on one 3' x 10* long, 2-surface Hum-mer Screen as shown on drawings Nos. H-1275, B-5243 and B-9631 - all of which should be installed at a 30 degree angle as indicated by the tests. The first two drawings
indicate the primary installation dimensions of the 3' x 10' 2surface Hum-mer Screen with the steel plate balance gate feeder with extension which we suggest be used to help distribute the
material across the entire width of the screen to take maximum use of the available screening area. Drawing B-9631 indicates the 3' x 10` collecting fines hopper that should be attached to the lower
flanges of the Hum-mer body to act as a central collecting point for the -120 mesh fines.
You will also note the four 4" O.D. air suction pipes running laterally across the width of the hopper with the bottom side of each pipe having a full width 3/8" slotted opening extm ding inside the hopper with the pipes connected to a common header on each side of the screen and air under semi-negative pressure can be drawn equally out of each end of the pipe, thereby creating a natural downdraft of air through the screen - picking up and eliminating from the area of the screen all extreme fines and airfloat

2-- -- particles with the secondary advantage that this natural downdraft will aid in keeping the material closer to the screening surface with a consequent increase in efficiency.
In view of the low density of the material, it would be difficult to estimate the amount of air required per pipe but for estimating purposes, we should imagine a fan capacity of 500 CPU would be sufficient and that you also make arrangements for an adjustable sleeve opening in the main manifold to the dust collecting system to bleed in outside air for a finer adjustment as to the amount of air drawn down through the screen,
