2. Complete list of ingredients. It is not necessary to know the amounts present but it is necessary to know which are the major ingredients and which are minor ( 1 percent) by weight.
3. Available laboratory reports on the toxicity of the compound and/or its ingredients as furnished by your own suppliers.
4. Available chemical test reports on levels of gases or vapors evolved during normal use.
5. The length of time the product has been on the market and its safety record. In the case of new products, have they been field tested and by whom?
6. A properly completed OSHA 20 form (Material Safety Data Sheets). This is a public document and will not be accepted as confidential.
7. Any other documentation, reports, or other evidence relevant to safety of the product in use.
Each compound so submitted shall be assigned an identification number by the manufacturer. Any changes in the formulation will necessitate reapproval by the Environmental Heath and Safety Department of Bell Telephone Laboratories, and a different number shall be assigned to identify the new formulation. The supplier shall notify the responsible Western Electric Buyer and PPE Engineer whenever a new or reformulated compound has been submitted for approval. Should any questions arise regarding these procedures, the supplier should contact the responsible PPE Engineer.
Material Requirements
3.04 Fire Resistance: The caulking compound shall not continue to burn or smolder"longer than 15 seconds after removal of the igniting flame.
3.05 Consistency: Penetration between 60 and 120.
3.05 Effect on Polyethylene: The material shall not cause stress cracking of polyethylene when tested 4 days at 50C.
3.07 Water Absorption: Weight increase after 24 hours shall be 0.8 percent maximum.
