Office Chrysler Center 417-05-19 Summary An Industrial Hygiene investigation was conducted at the Toledo Machining Plant on November 17, 1982 for employee expo sure to asbestos on the west brake assembly operation. Results from the survey indicated all employee exposures to be below the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 2 fibers/cc of air. At the time of the survey the east brake assembly line was not operating and will have to be monitored at some future date. Discussion The asbestos survey at the Toledo Machining Plant was com pleted on November 17, 1982. Results from the survey indicated that the employees associated with unloading the brake pads from the shipping container and loading onto the line, and those employees located just down the line from these operations have measurable exposures to asbestos, but not exceeding the PEL of 2 fibers/cc of air. As a result of these exposures the employees are required to have an annual medical exam under General Industry Standard 29CFR 1910.1001 (j). Further monitoring at this time is not required, but care should be exercised at these job stations to avoid creating any excessive asbestos dust. When production resumes on the east brake assembly line, HO-^ contact this office so arrangements can be made to monitor those employees for asbestos exposure.
