Dear Dr. Shull: A Norfolk and Western Railway employee has been examined on several occasions by different groups and by one group was diagnosed pulmonary asbestosis, a diagnosis concurred in by our Radiologist after a study of his films. He was exposed over a period of approxi mately six years to asbestos dust in a brake repair shop and his disease is stated to be moderately advanced. Knowing your interest in the disease and having read your article published in 1936, I would appreciate an opinion from you concerning the prognosis in these moderately advanced cases. I realize that you cannot give an opinion concerning any specific individual, particularly when you have had no opportunity to study him, but over a period of years, you have probably been able to determine the prognosis in a given group after exposure ceases.
