Kloppel: In accordance with the request !n your letter of May 20th, I am forwarding to you a report giving the results of our analysis of a sample of sludge obtained from a storage tank of the Orange State Oil Company. Perhaps a word of interpretation is required in connection with those results. We have been interested chiefly in the organic lead content of these sludges but for obvious reasons we have also been interested in the extent to which such organic lead compounds can be volatilized under conditions which are roughly and in principle comparable to those which might prevail within a storage tank. On this basi3, It can be sson that from such a sludge the overyling air can pick up highly toxic quancities of lead. If there are any further questions in your mind concerning the significance of these analytical data, I should be glad if you would bring them to my attention.
