Effective immediately the following medical surveillance program will be in effect for the Chicago Plant. Medical examinations are to be made available to all employees consistent with the final occupational exposure to lead standard as issued by OSHA on 11/4/78. Please note that physicals examinations will be given annually regardless of the employees age and blood lead levels will be taken on a monthly basis. The medical surveillance program will follow the requirements of the standard as noted in Paragraph "J", "3", "I" and "ii" Content, as found on page 53010.
(A) A detailed work history and a medical history, with particular attention to past lead exposure (occupational and non-occupational), personal habits (smoking,-hygiene), and past gastrointestinal,.hematologic, renal .^cardi'evascular, reproductive and neurological problems;
(B) A thorough physical examination, with particular attention to teeth, gums, hematologic, gastrointestinal, renal, cardiovascular, and neurological systems. Pulmonary status should be evaluated if respiratory protection will be used;
(C) A blood pressure measurement; (D) A blood sample and analysis which detertni nes: (1) Blood lead level; (2) Hemoglobin'and hematocrit determin ations, red cell indices, and examination of peripheral smear morphology; (3) Zinc protoporphyrin; (4) Blood urea nitrogen, and, (5) Serum creatinine; (E) A routine urinalysis with microscopic examination; and (F) Any laboratory or other test which the examining physician deems' sound medical practice.

During Cliff Hellings visit this week we discussed the
blood lead and ZPP level of
(shift supervisor)
His six month blood lead level is 52 and his Zinc Protopor phyrin level runs at 600-700. This indicates a very high body, burden and a possible health problem.
Cliff and I agreed this matter should be reviewed with J. Caporossi and probably Dr. Utidjian with the possibility of recommendation of medical treatment.
We are operating under a temporary variance (in effect until
September, 1985) allowing us to keep employees with a six
month blood standard at 50 or above in the work place. If
we lose t!
