Dear John:
The bulk sample you sent from 350 Cochituate Rd., Fraraington, Ma. (storeroom with open celling with asbestos sprayed-on) has been analyzed for asbestos. An x-ray diffraction scan of the material revealed a major crystalline portion to be chrysotile. An optical examination of the material by polarized light microscopy and dispersion staining revealed the presence of many asbestiform birefringent fibers. The dispersion staining characteristics of these fibers were similar to those of chrysotile.
