. Worker exposures to aabeetos (1332214) were aurveyed in June, 1970, at Certain-Teed Producta Corporation (SIC-3292) in Santa Clara, California. Asbeatos concentrations in the warehousing and mixing, pipe forming, curing,
pipe finishing, coupling finishing, epoxy, packing, end miscellaneous areas were 1.0 to 3.5, 1.4 to 2.5, 0.1 to 0.7, 0.0 to 4.6, 0.6 to 13.4, 0.3 to 1.8, 0.2 to 2.5, and 0.0 to 1.7 fibers greater than 5 microns per cubic centimeters
(f/cc). Three of the 49 samples exceeded the 1970 threshold limit value for
asbestos of 5.0f/ec.

The analysis of tho air sanples taken in your plant In June, 1970. has
been completed. The analysis was done using the membrane filter method
at 430X magnification phase contrast illumination. A table of the re sults Is enclosed. The 1970 Aiterican Conference of Governmental
Industrial Hygienists' List of Threshold Limit Values of Airborne Con taminants includes asbestos In the section of Intended changes. The new TLV Is five fibers greater than five microns In length per ml* As you will note three of the 49 samples exceeded the recommended con centration.
