September 25, 1947 :^ Mr. President, Members and Guests: Progress of the Air Hygiene Committee's assignments to date is as follows: At the September 5th, 1946 neeting in Philadelphia, Pa., the Industrial Health Plan submitted by Dr. Vestal was tabled until members of the Air Hygiene Committee could obtain advice and information from various State Health Departments, Industrial Hygiene Foundation of America, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, in New York. It was agreed that the Air Hygiene Committee should approach ' their assignment from the preventative angle, i.e., by the elimination of dust at its source, before attempting to work on the medical or curative basis. The matter of wet weaving has been discussed as a means of reducing one major source of dust. Full cooperation has been had from all members and letters offering helpful information have been exchanged. The matter of air contamination, both from dust particle content per cubic foot of air and the relative hazards of various particle sizes have been discussed. The members of the Air Hygiene Committee were authorized to contact members of the staff of the Industrial Hygiene Foundation of America for the purpose of arranging for a preliminary survey of dust conditions in the plants of Institute members. This organization has conducted an in vestigation of dust conditions in member company plants and submitted their -2- report along vith recommendations for a continuing program, in June of 1947. Copies of this report have been distributed to all member companies and this committee avaite the decisions of member conqpanies regarding the recommended program. B. F. STANTON Temporary Chairman
