The Xettering Laboratory of Applied Physiology College of Medicine University of Cincinnati Cincinnati 19, Ohio Attention: Robert A. Xehoe, M.D., Francis F. Heyroth, M.D. Gentlemen:
This is to sincerely thank you for your letter of October 13th and the bibliography of October 17th in refer ence to the effects of certain metallic dusts.
Solar Aircraft Company is engaged in the manufacture of the combustion components of jet aircraft'engines. One of my duties is to study the occupational /disease hazards which may or may not exist in the research and development section, and in the manufacturing sections. All of these manufacturing processes involve extensive grinding, machining and welding at high temperatures; the temperatures being well above the vaporization points of the various metals. The chances are that we may have relatively few toxic hazards, however, we are very interested in evaluating whatever potential or actual hazards that may exist.
May I compliment you on your excellent contributions to the literature on occupational disease and especially in the most recent publication "Industrial Hygiene and Toxicol-ogy" edited by Frank Patty.
As you indicated in your letter of October 13th, some of these research problems have yet to be accomplished. In the event that Solar Aircraft Company, in the future, might wish to actively sponsor a research project, may I ask if the Kettering Laboratory's facilities are for such work?
