Hammann SUlliCT Office Safety Committee Meeting Minutes - August 22, 1984 TO Leo Garza - Chairman Elaine Salles Pennie Johnson - Secretary Greg Stadter Tom Biegel Martha Thompson Laura Inskeep Mike Ward Sue Mears The OSC met Wednesday, August 22, 1984, at 10:00 a.m. primarily to discuss the publicity for the upcoming Annual Safety and Housekeeping Inspection which will be September 19-21. The theme this year will be "Safety Through Employee Involvement". We decided to publicize the inspection by doing the following: ITEM PERSON RESPONSIBLE Main Gate and West Gate Billboards Sue Mears Touch 85 Elaine Salles Plant News Laura Inskeep Bulletin Boards Tom Biegel Hourly Paycheck Messages Greg Stadter Since the inspection is only four weeks away, these items should begin as soon as possible. The following items were also discussed: 3rd Quarter Safety Meeting This meeting was held on July 23 with the subject "Poison Control." This was presented by Mike Ellis of the Poison Control Center in Galveston. He did an excellent job; however, the attendance was low. 4th Quarter Safety Meeting Leo Garza passed out information on a presentation by "Citizens Against Crime" (see attached handout). He is looking at having this group come to the plant on October 24. He will check with this group again to make sure that their intent is to discuss practical crime prevention and not just an opportunity to sell a product. SC 14266 LAM016055 OSC Meeting Minutes - August 22, 1984 Page 2. Holiday Safety We discussed having a presentation in December on alcohol and driving. Leo is to check with the MADD organization to see if they would have someone available for a presentation. Family Safety Magazine Two copies a new magazine entitled "Your Health and Fitness - Safety Edition" were passed around for members' evaluation. Sue Mears will route these to each member for an evaluation as to whether we should go to this magazine versus the current magazine we have used for a number of years. 1st Quarter 1985 We discussed the possibility of promoting a physical fitness program for Monsanto employees. One idea was an aerobic exercise class after work. We will need to pursue this discussion further at the next meeting. National Fire Prevention Week We discussed publicizing this week as part of our off-the-job safety campaign. Mark Riddle is to check with the National Fire Protection Associ ation to see if they have some promotional literature that would help us. Eye Safety We need to contact the National Society to Prevent Blindness to find out what week is designated nationally to promote eye safety. Greg Stadter volunteered to handle this. Miscellaneous We talked about the low attendance at the 3rd Quarter safety meeting. It is felt that supervisors are not reminding or pushing their people to attend these meetings. Two possible solutions to help remind people would be a handout at the gate on the morning of the meeting, or possibly announcing it over the Plectron system. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 7 in the Office Annex Building. Please plan to attend. /dgb Mark Riddle SC 14267 LAM016056 ** f 1984 TEXAS CITY SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING INSPECTION -G--U--I-D--E-L--I-N--E-S-- THEME SAFETY THROUGH EMPLOYEE INVOLVEMENT MAJOR OBJECTIVES Help the Plant. * Emphasis Involvement at all levels while specifically keying Into wage and first line supervision. ................ : * Provide ample opportunity to share experiences.
