OCPNA is a major building block in many of our 'dyes and will con tinue to be an important intermediate in the future. If tray drying is the present bottleneck, I .believe that we in Azo/Basic can provide additional help and possibly "Ponsol" could help also. I have asked our Product Assistance Group to investigate graining bowl drying and drum drying of this product. I believe there are some available graining bowls on the plant that could be used now and we have idle capacity in the Sulfur Black drum dryers. This information should be available in approximately two weeks. We have an authorized TA to test spray drying. I will urge this through our units although they are now heavily scheduled on priority colors. I believe we should have this trial completed within a month. At this time we know of no way to use successfully the undried material It does not diazotize properly due to the'granular and lumpy nature of the wet cake. We have this as a study problem. At present the molten OCPNA reaction mass is drowned batchwise and' this causes the incorrect particle formation. A type of jet drowning or continuous drowning procedure might provide a satisfactory .solution. Another avenue of attack is the HF milling of the wet cake and its subsequent diazotization. We expect to have some leads on this approach within the next month too. We will keep you apprised of progress. JJM:awn
