Grumbles January 24, 1990 DISCUSSION WITH ROY BARRETT OF USDA VEIA I called Roy Barrett at the request of Mark Volz to discuss an incident of PVC spilling onto the outside of bags containing rice. The receiver of the rice is concerned about contamination. We reviewed the details of the incident as previously described to Mark. Basically, he needed information to allow the Zaire government to make an educated decision on what to do with the rice. At this point, they believe it is all contaminated. Roy has talked to FDA and received some information from them. He asked for documents on PVC, if there was any quick detection method, and what was the residual vinyl content. We faxed him a MSDS and Tech Data Sheet. In an attached note, I indicated the typical RVCM was 1.5 ppm and that we knew of no quick, directing analytical test for PVC. T. G. Grumbles dlj cc: M.
