Dear Mr. Davis: Attached Appendix A presents a recapitulation of the vinyl chloride epidemiological data prepared for shipment to you. In accord with plans evolving from our recent telephone conversation, preparation of this shipment reflects the following: 1) Where it was necessary for me to repack documents (the original containers being too badly damaged to enable reuse and reshipment) and consolidate the contents of two original boxes, your identifying legend was preserved. When consolidating two smaller boxes, the contents of each box are individually wrapped and your original legend used on the overwrap. Thus your original data identification system is maintained. . 2) Gaps in the numbering sequence are not significant since sequential numbering would not preserve your original data identification system. Since the boxes were not stored in an orderly manner, it' was impossible to ascertain the maximum number used in your system. As a result, I began my numbering sequence with "60" in order to avoid the possibility of duplicating one of your identifying numbers. 3) There were cases where boxes obviously did not conform to your labeling system. Boxes 17, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, and 69 illustrate this point. Wherever the label was readable on the original shipping container, these original labels or legends appear in Appendix A. They appear to be critical records since one is from Plant No. 40 (apparently a BFGoodrich plant in Louisville, Kentucky), and the other, Plant No. 63, could not be identified from the data available. The entire shipment is expected to leave the D. C. area today via Yellow Freight. A bill of lading number will be sent to you when available. Yellow Freight was specifically selected since it guarantees a point-to-point pick-up and delivery service, that is, there is no terminal handling or other-carrier handling en route. Please confirm receipt of the thirty-nine containers that comprise this shipment. We request that you send us written confirmation that these epidemiological records will at all times be stored in a safe area and at no time will any of them be reshipped, released, or seperated from the body of records without specific written instructions from CMA.
