There is a corporate commitment to do the right and moral thing for Alcoans worldwide. In achieving that objective, we would expect to also meet at least the minimal health protection requirements mandated by government regulations or other recognized authorities, as -appropriate. If regulated exposure levels or conditions are not deemed to provide adequate health protection, or if no regulatory controls are in effect, Alcoa may establish its own exposure levels to be met through out its worldwide facilities. ~The objective of Industrial Hygiene is the "Control" of the plant environment to provide protection from health hazards. In support of : the objective. Industrial Hygiene has the specific responsibilities to "Anticipate, Recognize, and Evaluate" potential health hazards. Once health hazards are identified and quantified, their control may become a "shared responsibility" with other Alcoa management groups. Examples are not limited to, but might include: 1. Plant and/or corporate Operating management 2. Plant Superintendents and Supervisory Personnel 3. Engineering Departments 4. Process Control Departments 5. Safety Personnel 6. Medical Personnel 7. Research & Development 8. Others Establishing and implementing an effective Industrial Hygiene Program at an Alcoa facility is the responsibility of each Location Manager. He should assure that the people who have the delegated responsibilities for Industrial Hygiene also have the authority and the recognition within the plant organizational structure to meet and fulfill their charge of employee protection from potential health hazards. The corporate Industrial Hygiene Division is a staff resource to the plants to conduct their individual programs. This group is also responsible for overseeing all of the Company efforts for Industrial Hygiene. They will assist in developing corporate policy guidelines in controlling health hazards.
