Donald van der Vaart will remain a member of EPA's Science Advisory Board after resigning from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, an agency spokesperson said.
"Members of EPA's [Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee] and SAB are hired as scientists and experts in their fields, not as representatives of their employers," the spokesman said.
His resignation from the NCDEQ "will have no impact on Dr. Van der Vaart's status with the SAB," the spokesperson added.
Van der Vaart was added to SAB last month. He resigned from the NCDEQ this week after alleging the agency was trying to stifle his work.
